Jeera Aloo is a perfect simple stir fry with cumin seeds being a major ingredient. Cumin seeds are used as a spice for their distinctive flavour and aroma. It is globally popular and an essential flavouring in many cuisines, particularly South Asian, Northern African and Latin American cuisines. Cumin can be used ground or as whole seeds but here in this dish, the cumin seeds are dry roasted and coarsely ground and added, which adds an earthy and warming feeling to the dish, making it a staple in JeeraAloo.
Jeera Aloo can be accompanied with simple steamed rice and dal fry. It can also be paired with steamed rice along with other curries and makes a perfect meal. It can also be relished as main dish in the form of chats adding yogurt, tamarind and dates chutney, and coriander chutney.
Ingredients:
1. Potatoes - 3 to 4 nos.
2. Cumin seeds/Jeera - 3 to 4 tsp.
3. Green Chillies - 2 to 3
4. Coriander leaves - handful
5. Salt to taste
6. Oil - 2 tsp
Cooking Method:
1. Cut potato into cubes and place it in the water.
2. Dry roast the cumin seeds and powder them coarsely. Chop the green chillies.
