Sambar Powder |
Sambar Powder is an ingredient in sambar (South Indian cuisine), to add the flavor, spice and aroma to it. Sambar is a gravy generally served with Rice, Idly, Dosa, Vadas and Bondas. Sambar powder can be made in large quantity and stored for a period (approximately one to two months).
Ingredients:
1. Red chillies - 500 grams
2. Split red gram (toor dal) - 25 grams
3. Bengal gram ( channa dal) - 25 grams
4. Pepper corns - 50 grams
5. Cumin seeds (jeera) - 50 grams
6. Fenugreek seeds ( methi) - 25 grams
7. Dried Curry leaves
8. Raw rice - 10 grams
Cooking Method:
1. First in a pan warm or slightly roast all the ingredients to take out the moisture in it as it can be stocked.
2. Then powder all the ingredients in the mixer and store in an air tight container.
*The roasted raw Rice used here, serves as a natural thickening agent to the sambar.
