Fruit Chaat is a refreshing Chaat full of flavors and bright bold fruity colors. The addition of the Chaat Masala, which is a blend of cumin, black salt, coriander, dried ginger, salt, black pepper, dry mango and red chilly, perks up the flavor in the Fruit Chaat. Lemon juice soaked fruit chunks, yield tangy flavor to the Fruit Chaat. Though this Fruit Chaat is hit in all seasons, but scores a perfect-ten in scorching summer heat. The Fruit Chaat is quite famous in Chandini Chowk (opposite to the Red Fort, Delhi), which also houses variety of other Chaats too.
Sometimes people wonder, how come salt and spice in fruits...? But believe me the salt and spice enhances the distinct flavor and no doubt this adds depth to the Fruit Chaat.
We all often come a cross that when fruits like apples and bananas are cut and kept for sometime, turns brown due to reaction with oxygen which is in the air. This process is known as 'Oxidation'. Here in the Fruit Chaat, lemon juice is sprinkled to prevent oxidation of fruit chunks, which are a rich source of citric acid which is an effective anti-oxidant. Generally, kids may not like the taste of lemon with Fruits. For that, an alternative is to dip the knife in the Vinegar and then use this knife to cut the fruits like apple and bananas, which again prevents them from turning brown.
